International Music and Dance at New Rochelle Public Library

This July, New Rochelle Public Library will bring Greek, Jewish, Native American and Middle Eastern cultures to its stage through the artistic customs of each respective culture. For the 35th year, the Library’s International Music and Dance series embraces traditions of music, dance and song as told from unique perspectives. The series kicks off on July 10 with the Holy Trinity Dance Troupe of the New Rochelle Greek Orthodox Church. The troupe will perform authentic dances from mainland Greece and its islands. On July 17, traditional Jewish dance and music take the stage with the multi-generational Westchester Klezmer Program. Consisting of children, teens and adults, the group implements both and modern Klezmer music into its repertoire. On July 24, performing artists from Redhawk Native American Arts Council will educate the public, in full regalia, about Native American heritage through song, dance and theater in an event that will encourage audience participation. The series will end with Arabian dancing by Aszmara. The performer will be accompanied by music from Armenia, Turkey and Egypt. All events take place in the Library’s Ossie Davis Theater.
