Greenburgh Public Library Series Aims to Preserve Latino Culture

Throughout the month of July, Greenburgh Public Library presents a series that embraces Latin American culture. Café a las Siete aims to “preserve Latino culture for the next generation” with storytelling, music and dance. On July 10, children’s book author Emma Otheguy will help families to discover and protect their heritage through shared stories. On July 14, the band Mariachi Sol Mixteco bring their Mexican values to Westchester. This family band will introduce the mariachi tradition to guests of all cultures. Guests of the series’ July 17 event can expect a workout and education all at once when Maestro Carlos Doñán of Latinshines teaches the basic steps for Salsa dancing to beginner and advanced dancers alike. The final event of the series on July 18 will bring a history of the Milonga and Tango rhythm to the library as professional dancers Carolina Juarena and Daniel Martínez, along with the music of Bandoneón, perform and teach popular steps.
