Big Movies Return to the Big Screen at Jacob Burns Film Center
Jacob Burns Film Center’s “Retro Revival” series, which screens remastered and restored cinema, kicks off its summer season with “Back on the Big Screen.” This selection of nine beloved movies from 1952-1982 brings Hollywood classic films back to their original full-screen glory. From June 6 through 28, film buffs can get a glimpse of their star-studded favorites from a seat in the Center’s state-of-the-art theaters. Singin’ in the Rain launches the series on June 6. A reception in the Jane Peck Gallery will follow the screening. Several films will be presented in new 4K restoration: The Bridge of the River Kwai (June 13); a director’s cut of Close Encounters of the Third Kind (June 21); Lawrence of Arabia (June 25); and Spartacus (June 28). A Blade Runner: The Final Cut screening will show the definitive version of director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi adventure on June 20. Rounding out this season of the series are The French Connection, which was the first R-Rated movie to ever win the Best Picture Academy Award (June 11), and Alfred Hitchcock’s 1950s mind-bender Vertigo (June 14).
