Songcatchers Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Its After School Music Program
Songcatchers, Inc.’s history begins in 1979 as a simple elementary school choir founded by Sr. Beth Dowd, OSU. Now, almost 40 years later, with Dowd continuing her support as Executive Director, Songcatchers encompasses an after school music program, choir camp and early childhood music program. The organization achieves its mission of “reaching for peace through music” by providing an array of annual music programs that are affordable and accessible for more than 300 children and families in Westchester. On May 7, Songcatchers will host “Spirit of Songcatchers Brunch,” a fun-filled musical event that celebrates both the 20th anniversary of organization’s after school music program and the visionary leadership of Dowd. Guests can enjoy musical performances by the Songcatchers’ intergenerational concert choir and ensemble, as well as performances by students and instructor instrumentals from the after school music program.
