Roundtable Discussion Connects City of Mount Vernon With Local Arts Groups/Artists
ArtsWestchester and the City of Mount Vernon recently presented a roundtable discussion at Mount Vernon’s City Hall that recognized the artists and organizations funded by ArtsWestchester’s Mount Vernon Arts Initiative and Arts Alive grant programs.
The grantees were joined by Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard and guest speaker Recreation Department Commissioner Kathleen Walker-Pinckney in the Mayor’s conference room, where the group discussed opportunities available to the arts community of Mount Vernon.
The event also served as an opportunity for grantees to let one another know about their grant-supported projects, as well as to network and share resources.
Projects supported through these grants include free music events, community classes, exhibitions and the creation of new works by local artists. Some examples include a community mural project organized by Youth Shelter Program of Westchester, drum healing sessions from The Afrikan Healing Circle, a string quartet concert by Symphony of Westchester, a production of The Wiz by The Revelators, and the screening of a new film by Jeff Watkins.
