Barbara Clark

Barbara Clark began her career touring with her family’s Magical Lamp Puppet Theater, performing marionette and hand puppet shows.  While studying, she worked at the American Place Theater.  Clark co-founded Shelter West, an Equity Showcase Theater where she produced, performed or directed four productions a year for a number of years.  She is an actress, director and puppeteer who has performed voice-overs for the Children’s Television Workshop and Random House Children’s Books; she performed with the New York City Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park.  Under the direction of Kermit Love, creator of Sesame Street’s Big Bird, she joined the building crew at Great Jones Street to help build Big Bird and many other creations.  Clark co-created the children’s interactive theater company, Imagine Arts, which performed throughout parks, libraries, and museums in NYC and Westchester.  She has directed several children’s productions at New Rochelle Library and has created special projects for New Rochelle’s Therapeutic Recreation Program and for her theater.  Mask and puppetry workshops have taken place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloister’s Museum, Jumelle Mansion and Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors.  She also has a variety of workshops specifically tailored to children or adults at many community centers.      

Barbara majored in Speech-Drama at Hofstra University.  She studied professionally with Wynn Handman, Director of The American Place Theatre, Lynn Masters of Masters Speech and Voice, and Freddy Kareman.
