Thunderbird American Indian Dancers

The Untermyer Performing Arts Council is pleased to announce a performance by Thunderbird American Indian Dancers will be held 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9th at Untermyer Park, 945 North Broadway, Yonkers.

From the very beginning, aware of the diversity of tribal groups living in the metropolitan area, each with a very distinct cultural background, members of the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers determined to learn and preserved the songs their own tribes, as taught by their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Then they expanded to include those of other tribes.  In Native American culture, music and dance are metaphors for the celebration of all aspects of life.  Music is deeply rooted in the relationship between the sounds of nature and the human need to express emotions.  At the same time, music and dance are indispensable fuels that feed the flames of honor and tradition.

Wide in appeal, Thunderbird American Indian Dancers have made an enormous contribution to the preservation and perpetuation of American Indian culture, wonderfully presented with descriptive narration.  The Thunderbird Dancers have performed in almost all fifty states, enchanting diverse audiences with compelling performance of the varied traditions of the American Indian peoples.

The Untermyer Performing Arts Council is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to continuing the tradition of Minnie and Samuel Untermyer, bringing free musical entertainment to our treasure of a park and the people of Yonkers and beyond throughout the year.

Our events are admission free and open to the public, and all are welcome. This event will be held rain, snow, or shine.

This program, done in cooperation with Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, is made possible by Arts Westchester with support from Westchester County Government and the City of Yonkers.
