News Brief: Madelyn Jordon Fine Art Moves to White Plains

Contemporary art gallery Madelyn Jordon Fine Art (MJFA) recently relocated from its Scarsdale studio. Last month, it joined the artists and creative businesses that occupy ArtsWestchester’s building in the heart of downtown White Plains. This new home on the building’s fifth floor will operate as an office and gallery space for MJFA to show works and continue its arts consultancy services.

Says the gallery’s founder, Madelyn Jordon: “The new gallery and viewing room will continue to offer a wide range of artworks online and in-person as before… Our sales focus will continue to be on the phenomenal artists we represent, as well as art consultancy and secondary market services.”

MJFA, which was founded in 1994, represents a group of contemporary artists who specialize in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking and installation.

Jordon says the gallery will have ongoing focused installations in the space.  Currently on view through November 18 is “The Silent Wood,” a collection of works from camera artist Susan Wides and painter Ken Elliott. Wides fuses abstraction with representation, “conveying the experience of not merely seeing a place, but of immersing oneself deeply in nature.” Elliott, who works mainly with oils and pastels, focuses on the rural western landscape through a dramatic and bold color palette.

The gallery will be open by appointment Tues-Sat 10am-5:30pm, with open hours on Fridays for which no appointments are needed.

In addition to many artists’ studios, the dance studios of Ballet des Ameriques, and other creative businesses, ArtsWestchester’s nine-story historic landmark building also houses several other galleries. Dafco’s Gallery, which displays African art, and ArtsWestchester’s two-story gallery, where Crossing Borders Revisited is currently on view.
