India Center of Westchester Preserves Traditional Dance and Music in Westchester

On September 8, India Center of Westchester presents its fifth annual Parampara, an evening of classical Indian dance and music. The program showcases a sequence of creative disciplines from various states in India such as Odissi, Kuchipudi and Kathak dance forms, Carnatic vocals and sitar playing, demonstrated by advanced teachers in each of their respective fields. Parampara, which translates to “tradition,” aims to pass on an appreciation for these artistic forms to not only India Center’s community and its younger generations, but also to others living in, or visiting, Westchester. Tradition is a learned experience passed down from one generation to the next, so this program will include several of India Center’s teachers. The event will expose audiences to these cultural forms and help to preserve these artistic aspects of Indian culture within the County.
