Grab the Popcorn: 22 Outdoor Movies in Westchester

Outdoor movies have become a rite of passage for summer months. Throughout Westchester, family-friendly movies like Elemental to Trolls Band Together are being screened all season long and into September. ArtsNews will continue to present selections of upcoming free and affordable outdoor arts events in Westchester, including music in the air, theater in the park and more.

July 11: Concert and Movie: Ricky Blues Band & Trolls Band Together
Presented by The Town of Cortlandt
In the pop-musical movie Trolls Band Together, Poppy and Branch set out to reunite Branch with his brothers, who were once part of a boy band, in order to rescue their other brother who was kidnapped. The screening follows a performance by Ricky Blues Band, who will perform a blend of classic blues, rock and soul. At 7pm at the Cortlandt Waterfront Park.

July 12: Elemental
Presented by Peekskill Parks & Recreation
In the colorful Disney Pixar animated film Elemental, fire, water, land and air residents live together in Element City. At Riverfront Green Park at 8:30pm.

July 12: Under the Boardwalk
Presented by Village of Mamaroneck Parks and Recreation
When a storm sweeps two Jersey Shore crabs away, they set on an adventure to find their way back home in the musical comedy Under the Boardwalk. The screening takes place the same night as the Village’s Tiki Invasion. Movie begins at dusk.

July 13: Elemental
Presented by Westchester County Parks and Sharc Creative
The White Plains Hospital Screenings Under the Stars series kicks off with Pixar’s Elemental. Before the movie, kids can experience The Bubble Bus and try their hand at a ninja warrior inspired obstacle course. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or folding chairs. At sundown at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.

July 17: Lyle, Lyle Crocodile
Presented by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson
When the Primms move to New York City, their young son finds a friendly crocodile in the attic who can only communicate through song. The film begins at dusk in Senasqua Park, where picnicking is encouraged.

July 25: Concert and a Movie: The Mike Risko Band & Migration
Presented by The Town of Cortlandt
Guests at Cortlandt Waterfront Park can view a screening of the animated film Migration. When the movie’s protagonists, a family of ducks, leave their New England pond for Jamaica, they find themselves lost in New York City. Prior to the screening, the Mike Risko Band will perform high-energy blending of rock, pop, and soul music. At 7pm.

July 25: Movie Night At Ridge Hill: Toy Story
Presented by Ridge Hill
Toy Story When human boy Andy isn’t looking, his toys come to life. His favorite toy is Woody the cowboy, but when Andy gets space ranger action figure Buzz Lightyear for his birthday, Woody feels threatened. as they navigate their rivalry and friendship. Classic films will be shown on the jumbo screen on the last Thursdays of the month through September. Starting at sunset on the South Lawn.

July 31: Lightyear
Presented by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson
Space ranger Buzz Lightyear and his companions work together to escape the evil Zurg and his army of robots. Films begin at dusk. Picnicking is encouraged. The film begins at dusk in Senasqua Park, where picnicking is encouraged.

August 1: Concert and Movie: Billy 6 & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
Presented by The Town of Cortlandt
A movie screening of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will follow the music of Billy 6, a rock band that performs a blend of classic rock and modern alternative sounds. The movie follows four ninja turtles who live like humans until a gang of criminals steal their friend April’s moped and it’s up to them to save the day. This night of music and movies takes place with a backdrop of the Hudson River. 7pm at the Cortlandt Waterfront Park.

August 3: Trolls Band Together

August 16: Luca
Presented by Greenburgh Nature Center
In a seaside town on the Italian Riviera, sea creatures turn into humans when they’re on dry land. The coming-of-age tale centers on Luca, whose curiosity gets him in trouble and also thrusts him into a summer of adventures with newfound friends. Hosted on the nature centers’ Great Lawn.

August 23: The Princess and the Frog
Presented by Greenburgh Nature Center
Hosted on the nature center’s Great Lawn, this family movie night encourages guests to bring a blanket or chairs to view movies under the stars. On August 23, the center will feature a screening of The Princess and the Frog, Disney’s retelling of a German folktale. Hardworking Tiana’s dreams are derailed when a prince-turned-frog mistakes her for a princess.

August 24: Migration
Presented by Westchester County Parks and Sharc Creative
The animated movie Migration will be screened at sundown at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle. When the movie’s protagonists, a family of ducks, leave their New England pond for Jamaica, they find themselves lost in New York City. Westchester residency is required.

August 29: Shrek
Presented by Ridge Hill
The title protagonist in Shrek is an ogre who embarks on a quest to rescue a princess with the help of a talkative donkey, challenging fairy tale conventions along the way. Pop-up experiences are offered from Ridge Hill’s retailers and restaurants prior to the start of the movie. The screening begins at sunset on the South Lawn.

September 6: The Fabelmans
Presented by Peekskill Parks & Recreation
This PG-13 film takes place in the 1950s, when young Sammy becomes enthralled in movies and begins making his own films at home. The Stephen Spielberg-directed movie is semi-autobiographical. Guests can bring a blanket or folding chairs to watch the screening at 8:30pm on Riverfront Green Park.

September 6: Shrek

This movie centers around Willy Wonka, the character in Roald Dahl’s iconic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book, as a young man. This screening is part of a family camp-out. The movie begins at dusk.

September 13: How to Train Your Dragon
Presented by Greenburgh Nature Center
In How to Train Your Dragon, a norse teenager named Hiccup befriends a dragon named Toothless despite his father being chief of a clan that fights dragons. The screening is hosted on the nature center’s Great Lawn.

September 13: Hotel Transylvania
Presented by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson
In this animated film, Hotel Transylvania is a resort for monsters where they can be themselves without the interference of humans, until a human invades their space and falls in love with Dracula’s daughter Mavis. Films begin at dusk in Senasqua Park.

September 26: Space Jam
Presented by Ridge Hill
Space Jam follows basketball legend Michael Jordan, who teams up with the Looney Tunes characters to win a basketball game against aliens threatening to enslave them. The movie begins at sunset on the South Lawn. Pop-up experiences are offered from Ridge Hill’s retailers and restaurants prior to the start of the movie.
