Our final concert of the season celebrates our 30th anniversary with bold and timeless music for winds.
For this occasion, we will feature three guest conductors: Renowned composer, Dr. Jack Stamp, will conduct his most recent commissioned work, Prayer, composed in honor of our friend, Dr. Emily Threinen, Director of Bands at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Tom McCauley, Director of Bands at Montclair State University, will conduct Overture to “Candide,” by Leonard Bernstein. Dr. Shelley Axelson, Assistant Professor of Music at Montclair State University, will conduct Dream of Oenghus, Part 1 by Rolf Rudin. And our wonderful guest soloist is Lois Hicks-Wozniak, alto saxophone, who will perform Tarantella from Concerto after Gliere, by David Canfield.
Other works include a special fanfare by Patrick J. Burns, composed in honor of this 30th anniversary; Overture to Gypsy, by Jules Styne and arranged by WSW’s own Barton Green; and the Finale from Symphony #1 by Vasily Kalinnikov, complete with double antiphonal brass choirs.
