OFFENSIVE: Images of Women in Media
A Talk with Marcy B. Freedman
Artist and art historian Marcy B. Freedman discusses the role women played in advertising – not as members of an ad team, but as the object of advertisements. She will explore how media and popular culture position women, shape the definition of “femininity,” and shape how women view themselves in relation to their peers.
Marcy B. Freedman is an artist and an art historian with a focus upon video and performance art. She has often used her work to explore the sometimes-problematic relationship between a woman’s inner strengths and our society’s accepted codes of behavior and outward presentation. Marcy holds Master’s degrees in Art History from Princeton and the University of Michigan.
