Clay Art Center Looks Back at 60 Years of Clay Artistry with Year-Long “RE/CLAY” Program

In 2017, Clay Art Center will celebrate its 60th anniversary by hosting RE/CLAY, a year-long program that examines the past, present and future of ceramics, giving specific attention to chronicling the development of the Center. Programming throughout the year will include exhibitions, classes and events that ask how artistic growth can be measured over time, and how clay has impacted the Center’s community from decade to decade.

January will start the program off with a strong array of events: a community exhibit, Rising Stars, will display the work of some of the 400 students who took classes at the Center in the past year (Jan. 8-21); a lecture by independent curator Jeannine Falino will discuss how contemporary ceramics has advanced the direction of American craft (Jan. 21); three previous Artist-in-Residence alumni will return for a three-day workshop (Jan. 14-16); and an exhibition, Rewind: 60 Years at CAC, will present a narrative of the Center from 1957 to the present, as arranged by its founding director, Reena Kashap.
